Does an external hard drive require ventilation?

I recently bought a WD 1TB Elements External Hard Drive and its been really great soo far. But being a nice box I'd like to be able to put it aside on my desk and stack it below some of my other things. I don't see any vents on the enclosure so I guess it doesn't require ventilation? I'd thought I'd ask here just to be sure because I'd hate to lose all of my data. I'm doing a clean install of my computer soon and to lose my data would absolutely suck :]
