I have a WD My Passport (portable harddrive) and i cannot copy files to it.?

The computer recognizes it, and i can use and view the files already on it with no problem. But when i try to move a new file to it, it starts copying and gets stuck copying usually around 35% complete. I get no error messages, just the progress box as normal.
