Ps3 wont recognize my external hard drive?

HELLO! i just bought a wd my passport 500gb external hard drive and converted it to fat32 so i can watch movies on my ps3. when i plug it into the ps there is nothing where it would normaly say usb under the movies category. can someone help me?
